New training opportunities in the North

OAK Training and Development has teamed up with a local business to create new training opportunities for young people with a disability. Café Next Door, part of the CD Centre in Kings Meadows has a transition to work program where trainees receive accredited training working in the café. The program builds trainees skills and confidence, acting as a pathway to independence and employment.

“It’s about finding their strengths, then building on those,” says Training and Development Manager Graeme Finlayson.

The expansion of OAK programs to the North of the state is a result of the merger with Possability in 2016, with aims to bring these programs into the North West. The program has enjoyed successful outcomes for previous participants, as specialist trainers create tailored programs to each participant’s learning level, ability and learning style.
