Safety Wins Out at Oakdale

Oakdale Timber has taken out a Highly Commended award at the 2018 Worksafe Awards.

The prestigious awards celebrate excellence in health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace, with the winners announced at a cocktail evening held on 22 October at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart.

Oakdale Timber was a finalist alongside Hazel Brothers Group and Gradco Pty Ltd., taking out a Highly Commended Award in the category Excellence in developing and implementing an initiative (solution) to an identified work health and safety issue – Large Businesses.

The commendation was awarded for the implementation of a safety system for the forklifts used in warehouses and other work areas. The easy to understand system, which includes warning lights and training, has significantly reduced safety incidents for the whole team.

The forklift system is one of a number of safety initiatives introduced at Oakdale Timber earlier this year. Other initiatives have included additional training, drills, inspections, new procedures and equipment to reinforce the importance of safety in the workplace.

CEO Drew Beswick applauded the team’s efforts.

“Safety always comes first and it is great to see the team get recognition for all of the hard work they have put into the safety program. Congratulations to the entire Oakdale team and all of the award winners, they should be very proud of their achievements.”
